The experiences of the Antonian Library

The Antoniana Library is the largest cultural institution on Ischia. Historians, researchers, and lovers of reading, as well as the curious and admirers of art, will be able to amine rare volumes here and enjoy them through loans, public reading services, document delivery, and in-person and remote bibliographic consulting. 

The Library, can be visited Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. In addition, it offers many experiences for young children to help them approach reading and develop their creativity.

Details

The Antoniana Public Library, promotes three free cultural offerings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Directions

On Tuesdays, the library offers reading of selected texts from children’s literature, which is followed by a play activity designed to introduce children to the English language. The project “Let’s have fun with English through animated readings and play activities” is for children aged 6 to 10 years old, which will be followed according to the number of participants and age groups according to specific proposals.

Reading aloud for adults

On Wednesdays, the library offers its guests the opportunity to be able to connect with the island through listening. Little-known texts, especially descriptive of the area and its traditions, will be selected from the library.

Between papers and inks

On Fridays from 5-7 p.m. through the activity “Between Papers and Inks,” guest will be introduced to the knowledge of the Antoniana Library’s ancient and rare heritage.

The library unveiled

Every morning, upon reservation, a tour aimed at learning about the history of the Antonian Library and the ancient convent that houses it, as well as the secrets of its documentary as well as artistic heritage, will be offered for groups of more than six people.

The Masonic Code of Ischia

Every week it is possible to book a visit with the director of the Antoniana Municipal Library, who, depending on her availability, will assess the day on which she can introduce guests to one of the oldest documents related to the early days of speculative freemasonry.

  • Participating in the cultural projects listed above is possible by reservation.
  • Free guided tours of the library and the convent that houses them must be booked in the case of groups of more than 6 people
  • The book lending service, upon registration, is provided up to a maximum of 2 books for the duration of 30 days. Instead, there are 7 days for the lending of multimedia materials.
